The WAG Level 7-10 National Final and FIG All-Around Championships (Celtic Cup) Results:
Levels 7&8 competed in the AM-
The morning session went very well – congratulations to all who medaled, but also to the entire morning squad. For Alex and Aisling it was their first time competing at this higher level. Nerves were present but overall some very positive performances. A great vault score from Aisling and a lovely bar routine and score from Alex – two very promising gymnasts here and still very young at 9 years of age. A great day for Emer Shimizu who won the silver medal. Emer was a fantastic competitor with great focus and determination throughout the morning. Well done Emer!
The Level 8 under 13 had a tough group, with gymnasts from some of the strongest clubs in the country. It was an exciting and tight competition, with some of the highest scores of the levels gymnasts. Well done to Amy O’Neill, she had wonderful performances everywhere, with some of the highest vault and bar scores in her group. The competition was tough in her group, where Nicole took the bronze medal and Roisin the silver medal.
The final gymnast of the morning session was Emma Greene. She placed forth in her group with very close scores throughout – less than 0.34 between herself and first place, very close!!! Beautiful floor and good vault score but two unfortunate falls were counted and this meant she had to settle for forth on this occasion.
Results from the morning session:
Level 7 under 11: Aisling Fuller 36.21
Level 7 under 11: Alex-Marie McDonagh 34.34
Level 7 under 13: Emer Shimizu 41.67 (Silver medal)
Level 8 under 13: Nicole Shaw 42.180 (Bronze medal)
Level 8 under 13: Amy O’Neill 40.84
Level 8 under 13: Roisin Curran 42.62 (Silver medal)
Level 8 over 13: Emma Greene 40.180
Levels 9,10 and FIG battled it out in the PM-
The afternoon session was a bit up and down – the lows being just enough to keep the medals out of reach for some gymnasts on this occasion. Well done girls! Great competition for Emmeline Anghileri who placed second in the FIG AA. Nice one Em!
The Level 9 group was very close for Caoimhe Connaughton placed forth by a whisker with an all round strong day. An unfortunate fall on bars was enough to put Erin Shimizu out of the medals this time, who elsewhere had strong competition performances. Lainey Lynskey was our third gymnast in this group, with good performances on both floor and bars.
Finally in the PM session was Ellen Hynes and Emmeline Anghileri. Again some ups and downs here, but overall a good day, especially for Emmeline who won the silver medal in the all around minors group. She performed strong routines on bars and beam, and to top it off we all had the pleasure of watching her new floor routine! Well done Em!
Ellen also has very strong floor and vault scores, forth highest floor and third highest vault. Some mistakes on bars unfortunately meant a low bar score on this occasion, and a final fall on beam was enough to put Ellen out of contention. But she’s another young gymnast with much promise and for her first year competing in FIG she should be very happy with herself. Well done Ellen!
Results from afternoon session:
Level 9 over 13: Caoimhe Connaughton 41.3
Level 9 over 13: Erin Shimizu 40.675
Level 9 over 13: Lainey Lynskey 39.75
Minors: Ellen Hynes 36.825
Minors: Emmeline Anghileri 42.305 (Silver medal)
