Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th February was a great weekend of competitions for the Renmore Gymnasts that traveled up to Co. Wicklow to participate in the National Level 2 – 9 All Around Championships.
Saturday evening was a busy session with a large squad all competing in the first round, and what a great job they did of starting off the weekend on a good foot! Sunday session 1 continued to be a great day and finally Session 3 rounded off the weekend well with outstanding performances across all Levels. Renmore gymnastics is very proud of all the gymnasts that performed this weekend and the great standard they showed in their routines, well done all of you!
Starting in the Level 2 U9 category Renmore’s Caoimhe Donohoe, a member of the National development squad performed with fantastic focus and execution for such a young gymnast and was rewarded with the gold medal position! Great job Caoimhe and great score – 46.384, and certainly one to watch for the future! In the Under 11 category team mate Blathnaid Higgins once again earnt her space on the podium winning the silver medal after some particularly beautiful routines on both Bars and Beam, her score – 46.157. The final age group in level 2 is the O11 category which included Renmore gymnast Leah McGrath. Leah showed great focus and excellent execution as she performed her routines confidently and with great finesse but on this occasion just missed out on a podium spot finishing in 4th position with an AA score of 40.60 – great job Leah!Moving onto level 3 U11 representing RGC was Ruth Mahon who also had a fantastic competition and placed 6th overall with a great score of 42.69 and some very very tough competition in that category! In the O11 age group Angelika Kolodziej had another great competition and bought home the bronze medal. Great comp Angelika and another good score – 42.250!
At level 4 U9 Siofra Davis, a member of the National Development Squad, placed 2nd in her age group with a score 42.45, less than .5 between herself and first place. In the U11 age group Renmore’s Kate Kidd had a tough group with some excellent competition included, on this occasion Kate finished in 7th place out of 15 gymnasts with an AA score of 41.90. In the Level 4 U13 category Siochain Fahy had a fantastic competition finishing in first place with an AA score of 42.44. Also at Level 4 but this time in the O13 category Renmore’s Natasha Johnson had a fabulous competition and finished in 3rd place with a overall score of 40.184. Moving onto level 5 and starting in the level 5 U11 category both Grace Haugh and Miriam Fuller competed beautifully. On this occasion Grace just missed out of a podium position finishing in 5th place with a score of – 40.017 less than .4 between her and 3rd place, beautiful routines on floor and beam Grace! A very close competition in this category, with Renmore’s Miriam Fuller, a member of the National Start Squad taking the gold medal after outstanding performances on all 4 pieces and an excellent AA score of 43.95. Miriam continues to maintain a great track record of competitions and will certainly be one to keep an eye on in the future! In the U13 Age group Anna Kidd competed with total determination and great energy across all pieces. Unfortunately Anna had to count an uncharacteristic fall on bars which was enough to keep her out of the medal spots on this occasion. Despite this Anna’s AA score was still – 39.717 and she still placed in 5th position.
At Level 6 in the U11 group Renmore’s Aoife Walsh – a member of the National Development squad was unfortunately forced to withdraw due to illness. However in the U13 age group team mates Siofra Molloy and Maya Banerjee both battled it out against some very tough competition. Both girls are members of the National Development Squad and have made great progress over recent seasons. Unfortunately Sunday was not to be Siofra’s day who carried some unfortunate falls and scored AA – 37.334, Siofra secured the second highest bar score behind team mate Maya who competed very well and went on to take the gold medal position with an AA score of – 41.85. In the level 7 O13 category Eimear Flanagan fought with great focus and determination and was rewarded with the Silver medal and an AA score of 42.90, great job Eimear! At level 8 O13 Renmore’s Rosalie Hynes performed well, and despite a fall on beam still fantastically placed in 3rd position with an AA score of 40.968 – Well done Rosalie! And Finally in the level 9 U13 age group Renmore’s Aisling Connaughton a member of the National Development squad, battled on with a strapped sprained ankle to take home the Silver medal and still managed to compete her 1/1 twist and vault after some concern! Great job Aisling her AA score was 42.533 and if she had not of forgotten an element in her floor routine would have secured the gold medal! Girls you all did great, please remember making mistakes is crucial it’s the only way we learn! The biggest champion is always the person who ‘failed’ the most times, you need to fail in order to be successful! (Wise words of the day!)
